How to Lose Half a Million Dollars and Still Smile

Of course there was a moment when I was far from smiling. The owner of a property that I had sold five years ago had just informed me the appraised value had more than doubled. Initially I sensed a visceral reaction through my body. “How could I have had such bad timing?” For a moment it felt like a lead weight in my belly then I took a few deep breaths and returned to the certainty I felt when I made the decision; the sense of clarity and well-being that had accompanied the completion of the DecisionClarity process. And then I smiled. Of course this was not supposed to be my gain; it belonged to someone else. My soul had known this and by calming my mind and working with the breath I was able to recreate the assurance that I had done the right thing even though five years had passed. My smile widens as I remember the final moment of my decision-making five years ago: “Would your tenants have left and a buyer have appeared if you were supposed to keep this place?” Over and over again I have witnessed the powerful sense of affirmation that conscious decision-making brings.
In addition it helps to control the voices of dissonance that raise their unwelcome agenda like gatecrashers at a wedding. Sometimes the peace we are feeling about the decision is disrupted. Perhaps we feel regrets or start to second-guess ourselves. In order to manage the conflicted thoughts and feelings we need to return to the sense of clarity that was experienced during the final step of the decision-making. At the moment of completion of the DecisionClarity process there is invariably a powerful sense of calm and well-being. It feels like an affirmation of a “job well done.” It is important to rest in this positive energy for a few moments and associate the state with the decision you have made.  For example you may feel a warm glow of golden energy. By focussing on that golden glow you will notice your uncertainty dissipate. One client was trying to decide whether to leave her employment. When we completed the final step she had great clarity not to leave but if in the future she was offered a severance package, it would be a sign to go. I received a call a couple of months later that a package had been offered and at first caused immediate fear and anxiety, however she was able to recreate the state of peace and calm she had felt about her decision and the anxiety dissipated. She left a well-paid corporate career behind for a new calling as a life and corporate coach and has never looked back. When we connect with our deeper wisdom we need never second-guess the outcome.
